Professors Ana Maria Montoya (Universidad de Chile), Raimundo Undurraga (Universidad de Chile), Paul Gertler (UC Berkeley), Eric Parrado, (IADB) and Sean Higgins (Northwestern University) are looking to hire a full-time Research Assistant to work remotely on a project to track the economic and financial impacts of COVID-19 in Latin America using high-frequency banking data.
This project is a collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL). This project will likely lead to both academic research and papers as well as policy impact, as the results will be made publicly available and frequently updated in a dashboard on the IDB website and will be used in high-level dialogue with policymakers.
The ideal candidate has experience programming, processing large datasets, and performing statistical analyses in Python, R, or related programs, is fluent in both English and Spanish with a strong academic record, and has a bachelor’s or master’s degree. (Current Ph.D. students may also apply for a part-time position).
Research duties include:
-Performing statistical analyses on large data sets using Python, R, or related programs.
-Designing data visualization tools and dashboards
-Communicating in Spanish with colleagues at our partner institutions
