THE OPPORTUNITY

As a senior Backend JS Developer you will join our growing Lex Engineering team. You will become part of the early, core team at Lex. 

You will be collaborating closely with product management and other engineers in order to design and develop scalable web applications. In no time you will take responsibility over the whole lifecycle of Lex backend development, inspire other engineers and make the Lex mission come true!

You’ll be responsible for development of Lex backend features hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure.

You have experience with the whole lifecycle of software development: requirements analysis & technical specification, development, testing & debugging, deployment, monitoring & maintenance. Knowledge of good software development practices & tools.

You should be comfortable with remote work, have great team spirit, possess knowledge & passion about queer culture. You are excited to be part of a team and product that works hard to be inclusive and intersectional.

You should be comfortable working alongside NYC (ET) and Berlin (CET) timezones for at least a 4 hour period.

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL

• Get to know the Lex Team.
• Get comfortable with Lex web codebase.
• Participate in Engineering Team events & understand the workflow.
• Complete several routine engineering tasks.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Collaborate with other engineers on establishing technical feasibility & specification of new features.
• Make a visible impact on the product for all the users of Lex.
• Create high quality, secure & tested code.
• Assist with web software deployments and support the mobile team in client releases.

WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Be comfortable with suggesting improvements to the Lex Engineering Team workflow & toolset.
• Easily navigate most of our stack and infrastructure.
• Devise improvements to the Lex backend architecture and services.

WITHIN 12 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Take responsibility over the whole web app lifecycle: from development to deployments and monitoring.
• Participate in interviewing and hiring of new engineers.
• Share your knowledge with other engineers by mentoring, pair programming and other learning opportunities.

Note: This is an ongoing, full-time position at Lex that will move well beyond 12 months. We sketched this timeframe to give you a framework of your impact at Lex.

SALARY BAND

US range: $85K-110K USD range based on high, average, low cost of living city and experience

Lex is a lo-fi, text-centered social app for women, trans, genderqueer, two spirit and non-binary ppl for meeting lovers and friends. Inspired by old school newspaper personal ads, Lex (formerly known as Personals) lived on Instagram for years before evolving into an app. In November 2019 we released Lex app MVP. 8 months in and Lex has average 10K daily active users. We closed our seed round in June with funding from the people behind CoStar, Peanut, Zola, and more.
