Overview: Seeking a developer to improve and enhance our online member portal so that it more easily accommodates members as they connect with one another, helping one another with goals (and getting help), and administering the org (squads and other things). Your job will be to make sure the codebase is well organized, explained, and documented. Must be able to attend meetings that occur between the hours of 10am-4pm PST.
Completion of BA/BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field of study or equivalent practical experience, including computer science coursework, no later than August 2019
Programming experience in one or more of the following general-purpose programming languages: C/C++, C# Java, Python, or Go
Strong knowledge of building APIs in Node.js
Comfortable with and desire to build user centric solutions end to end
Experience integrating third party platforms/libraries/etc.
Comfortable working completely independently without support from other engineers
Ability to collaborate well with various non-technical stakeholders to clarify and prioritize engineering requirements
Experience building a robust web app from scratch
Other useful/Desired qualifications:
Familiar with Heroku and Mongo
Experience with data structures, algorithms, and/or complexity analysis
Relevant experience, open-source contributions or competitive programming exposure through hands-on coding in a general-purpose programming language
Interest and ability to lead projects in a distributed team environment with a focus on knowledge sharing and collaboration. Our members are available to assist with specific tasks however their input/output may be sporadic and will need to be checked to ensure consistent progress toward agreed-upon goals.
Strong communication skills, including working proficiency in verbal and written English.

MajorKey is our online member portal. It was originally conceived as a place where members could connect, learn about one another, post their goals and initiate project working sessions. It is also the primary repository of member data and the means by which we (the admin team) monitor member KPIs including a number of “props” given and received; attendance at monthly meetings and changes in career status and/or level. We’re looking for an engineer to help us stabilize and enhance MajorKey as well as provide insights regarding future optimization that can and will facilitate member usage. Some ideas for enhancement include: optimizing information retrieval, streamlining member ability to find and fix “bugs”; enhancing search and UI design; optimizing for mobile usage; the list goes on and is growing every day. As an Engineer in Residence, you will work on specific tasks that are critical to meet /dev/color’s usage goals. Because some of these needs are documented/prioritized and some are not; we ask that our EIR be flexible, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic about taking on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push this technology forward.
