Overview:

Are you a communications professional interested in employee engagement and health care?Altarum, a nonprofit health care consulting organization and government contractor, is hiring an internal communications specialist with strong writing and oral communication skills to drive employee engagement. Candidates based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and select remote locations will be considered.

Altarums mission is to advance health of at-risk and disenfranchised populations. We build innovative solutions to improve quality of care of Medicare, Medicaid, and military and veteran health system beneficiaries. We work with states and foundations on a wide range of health-related initiatives, from responding to the opioid crisis to connecting health information for better outcomes.

This position is central to advancing this mission by building channels of communication across the organization that inform, engage, and energize our team members. The position is based in Altarums Communications and Public Affairs department, but also works closely with members of the Human Resources department.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute internal communication plans and create compelling materials that inform team members of the organizationsvision, mission, and strategy; diversity, equity, and inclusion program; benefits and compensation; and career development initiatives.
  • Craft messaging for multiple distribution channels including virtual meetings, the intranet (SharePoint), email, video, digital newsletters, and presentations.
  • Align and disseminate communications across six centers of excellence and all corporate operating units, working in a collaborative, service-oriented manner.
  • Provide counsel and support to internal stakeholders on messaging, presentation, and dissemination of communications.
  • Coordinate and support Employee Resource Group virtual events and activities that cultivate a culture of inclusion.
  • Work across the organization to identify compelling stories about Altarums work and collaborate with subject matter experts to develop story angles that align with strategic goals.
  • Contribute to communication strategy sessions and regular team meetings to coordinate activities, brainstorm creative ideas, and execute plans.
  • Identify, track, and analyze internal communication metrics; conduct research of and adopt best practices in employee communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in a related discipline where writing is emphasized.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in positions where professional writing was central to the job, such as journalism, copywriting, or public relations.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, and an ability to translate complex technical information into engaging content.
  • Proficiency in AP style and strong proofreading skills.
  • Strong oral communication skills, professional judgement, discretion in handling sensitive subjects, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to thrive on a virtual team that relies heavily on technology to communicate, including email, video conference, and chat.
  • Proficient in SharePoint; website content management systems (CMS); digital newsletter software, such as MailChimp; and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and design experience is a plus.
  • Experience creating videos or using video-editing software is also a plus.
