Newsweek is hiring a fellow for its off-platform content team!
This role is focused on Newsweek’s digital presence on third-party news platforms like Apple News and MSN. It is a paid four-month, full-time remote program with the possibility of a permanent position. Applicants can be based anywhere in the U.S.
Fellows will be tasked with identifying and writing content that performs well on both the Newsweek site and on off-platform channels; we’re looking for people who can write the stories that will be at the top of Apple News every morning. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic about writing everything from lists to trending stories about culture and politics and staying on top of what is taking off online. Here is what we are looking for in an ideal applicant:
Voracious devourer of the news – someone who comes in every morning knowing what’s happening in the news, what’s trending online and is able to keep on top of developments throughout the day.
Ability to turn out quick, clean, accurate copy and succinctly tell readers what the story is and why they should care about it.
Ability to take assignments from editors and run with unique, clear angles that set our stories apart from other competitors.
Familiarity with popular news aggregators and how different types of stories perform on these sites.
Skilled at spotting, pitching and understanding trends that are taking off online and identifying the story worth writing behind those trends.
Skilled at writing shareable headlines, self-editing and jumping on breaking stories to stay ahead of the competition.
Familiarity with a diverse range of online communities and platforms where trending content is often found (Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
